I went to a lot of shows and talked with Wizards and showed them my portfolio. Its by far the most effective way to get your stuff out there. Go to the [link] for more info on the Wizards way.

Sounds like a tough job. That must have taken you a lot of effort and determination to get where you wanted to go. A friend of mine is aspiring to be an illustrator as well and she hopes to one day to the things you do. Though he's not sure if her art is on the high level required for it.

Say, I know you don't exactly speak for WotC or Blizzard but would you consider doing her a favor and take a look? I know she'll greatly appreciate the input of a guy who "has been there" so to speak.

Haha! Hai! (belt bow) Thanks! Waaaay back I was one of the ADs with FASA, so I'd looked at a lot of portfolios and I always liked doing it, and I loved seeing the people come back with improvements. so I hope it helps. I know how frustrating it can be to try to do something you really want but feel like its a nameless faceless entity... if that makes any sense. I hope the post didn't come off odd. I felt weird critiquing since i didn't talk with them directly.

Hello,
There are a couple things you can try. I'd suggest going to conventions and talking to the people you'll be working with. Then you can get first hand feedback on what they're looking for, which is what I did when I started out. If that's not an option, take a look at this blog, [link] its run by Jon Schindehette at Wizards. He usually runs contests so its a way to get feedback and noticed from industry people. Does that help?

Heh, hey don't call it the "Melting Pot" for nothing.
Sometimes I just take two ordinary things and combine it into something new and awesome. Though I have been told that fantasy art needs at least to be recognisable. Only bigger and faster.
