Thanks, church is more important than my psychology studies, of course. But ultimately, I aim to work in the mental health field helping other people. So the two are (kind of) linked!

I am a Theology Major at my College. I subscribe very much to the (classical) Catholic understanding of Theology - She is the Queen of the Sciences - all subsequent sciences... including psychology... are to be included under this umbrella. So I understand precisely where you're coming from. For me, my major substraits of Theology are philosophy and sociology.

I agree with you there. I must say that it's a blessing that not only is the Blessed Virgin our Holy Mother, but she's also a Queen. This delights me! 
Very impressive studying you're doing. I preferred the philosophy aspect of my theology studies but found it veryyy confusing at times. I prefer reading about it in my spare time rather than academic study if that makes sense. I hope you are finding it useful.

I understand what you're saying. And yes, philosophy is useful. Trying, at times, but useful. I think Saint Stein said it best when she said: "to study philosophy is to walk perpetually on the edge of the abyss."
And yes - sparetime philosophy is best spent time, in that you can stop when you're overwhelmed - it's much healthier, that way. Philosophy is such a substance that should only be consumed in moderate doses.

I have not heard of your quote from St. Stein - it was very good. But yes, moderate doses of philosophy added to a bit of our Lord's grace and you've got yourself a very good recipe for a closer and more understanding knowledge and relationship with God and the faith we claim to profess
