hopefully you will be lucky enough to not have it. so, what is france like? In america, it is always thought of as the most romantic country, with great food and wine, and a wonderful place to live. what is it like for someone who lives there?

What is France Like?...Good Question!

What can i say....

( i'am thinking about it since 15 minutes now... and i don't really know how to describe it)

Well, I like my country.

I could say that yes, the historical heritage of France (monuments, places, landscapes) is an invitation of Romantism. But French people are not the most affable persons you can meet; we have some urban zones (near big cities) that are completely depressing and creepy.

Most of the young generation is really obsessed by money and the american dream.(wild freedom with a lot of money, big cars, big guns, and outrageous parties!)

Great food and Wine: Yeaaaaahhhh!we have a very good potential here!^^
^^ Wines, cheeses, Bread!!! (hello stereopyte)

BUT,now it's not in every street you can find a good french restaurent. We welcomed Mac Donald, pizzerias, and fats food. (mondialisation Power)

For better food you should leave Paris( and costly catch-tourist restaurents) an travel in the landscape.
For typical food, search for "table d'hΓ΄te"...more convivial.

It's not a bad place to live...but like everwhere jobs are hard to find, and sometimes hard to keep. Our social protection and accompagnement measures are slowly disappearing... even if we fight for it. Medias, TV ... oriented what we sould think. Like everywhere else.

But compared to others countries...It's a good place to live. Not too hot, not too cold... not too big or too small.

And for Paris:

You may not see tables in Paris draped of "red vichy"...or painters in Montmartre... But you may find couples walking tenderly in the streets or watching the Seine, from the bridges near Notre Dame.

I'm sorry to all the French people who will read this answer..i didn't do justice to our country...^^'

When I read what you said about the "American Dream" I couldn't help but laugh. America is NOTHING like that. Those who think that have probably seen too many bad movies and shows from Hollywood. I will explain in a bit. Here, we have a lot of national landmarks and other really cool places to visit.

Some man made ones are:
The Gettysburg monument, the Antietam monument, the Freedom Trail (in Boston,Ma, it visits 15 monuments from the revolutionary war), Washington, D.C. is practically one HUGE monument, the fort at St. Augustine, and many more. This is just a list of a few places where I have been! of course, this is also just the east coast.

Some Natural "Monuments" are:
The Grand Canyon, the Adirondack mountains (which include the manmade Adirondack trail), Mount Katahdin and the Knifes Edge (a approx. 3 ft [1 M] wide path with sides sloping dramatically down 1000 ft [307.5 M], and more that I dont even Know.

Our country is so large, most people don't know anything about other parts of the country, unless they lived there, or can afford to visit.

now, about the "American Dream." That is probably the most foreign thing I have seen you type. (no offense intended. I love meeting people from other countries and hearing their Ideas.) Here, there aren't really huge parties constantly. We don't have nearly as much freedom as people think (I mean people our age). Big cars, yes we do have them, but many people hate them, and want more efficient cars. even if it means giving up the huge size. big guns, no, no, no. here gun laws are extremely strict. first off, no automatic guns to civilians. no concealed firearms to civilians. Police are a slightly different story. but, gun laws here are extremely strict. Lastly, we were hit extremely hard by the economic trouble. the only reason my small town escaped it was because we had a hospital, and we still didn't escape it completely. Unemployment is a huge issue. also, the poor are getting poorer, and the rich richer. This country is not the place to be when the economy takes a dive.

our country covers a huge area, so has many different climates. Maine in the north where it doesn't get much warmer than 70 Fahrenheit (21.1 Celsius)and in the winter gets to -40 Fahrenheit (ironically, -40 Celcius). Florida in the south rarely gets below 40 Fahrenheit (4.4 Celcius)really, the temperature depends on where you are in our country.

We are such a melting pot we arent specifically known for any food or beverage.

Also, our country is in deep debt, which really hurts us. would say more, but I have to go.

The crisis and the debt are an international problem, yes! Here too porr become poorer... institutions lie to us...saying that unemployment is slowly descreasing...but it's beacause the throw more people out of the registers.

This world debt is The True Problem. The monetary system doesn't fonction correctly for stabilisating the situation. It accentuate the debt in itself. That's depressing me.

It is tough all over.

you know what? we should form a group of people who write about how the economic crisis has effected them and their country. have peoples opinions. and, the first piece each person submits is what their country is like, in THEIR words. it would make for interesting reading.
