Description
An indulgent pile of Mordecai drawings I posted to my tumblr recently. Creepy faces are less off-putting on bug-eyed cats, I suppose. A lot of these donβt feel like they came out quite right, but I donβt have time to mess with them any longer.---------

I have to say the facial expression in the middle of the image really caught my attention. It is so... realistic and captivating. He almost looks like he is looking up at a tree he plans to climb up in order to read a book in peace, alone. It has an almost innocence to it compared to the others, like he's completely normal like everyone else. His hair is also slightly messy so it makes it look like he's much more normal and he has a kind of careless and relaxed demeanor. It's a very nice change of pace for him.
I must say that Mordecai is my favorite of all the characters, his personality is just too funny. He's so serious he doesn't even realize how funny it is so he is oblivious to why others find him funny which only agitates him and makes him react in an even more comical way. He's well developed, likable character despite the whole being an OCD sociopath hit-man for hire. I get the feeling that if he wasn't working as a hit-man he most likely would have made an excellent librarian...
Then again he might beat someone to death with a book if they put it slightly out of place and the fact that not all the books are the same dimensions in the shelves would most likely make him go crazy.

Mordecai is my favorite of your Lackadaisy characters....he's just so......well, I can't really put into one word aside from "awesome" so I'll stick with that. I just wanna snuggle him....but then he might garrote me so that might not be a good idea *sigh* so manly (catty?)......

Of all the human Lackadaisy characters you've drawn, you've just made Mordecai my absolute favorite.

I really like the upper most left hand picture the best but you always have such interesting and awesome expressions. Whether they are on cats or on people, you portray them really well. I also like the one with his hand on his forehead. I feel sorry for the guy there. He looks tormented. I always looks forward to whatever work you're coming up with next.
I do have a quick question though... if I remember correctly I think you were on elfwood and you had a more fantasy story that you were working on with foxes and tigers and a gypsy rabbit? I'm pretty sure that was you but not 100%. I guess I'm a bit curious as to what happened to those characters?
I thought the pictures of those characters were also quite fascinating. I enjoyed your work at that point, and I definitely admire your work now.

Hehe. Yeah - wow - it's been years since I've been on Elfwood. Time flies, I guess.
I had an old project with a medieval setting that featured a variety of animal characters. They're still floating around in my head somewhere. I had been working on that since I was a kid, really, and after tweaking and fiddling with it for a number of years, what I ended up with that an over-wrought mess of a story. I got to a point where I just had to set it aside and move on to something else. I'm not sure if I'll ever get back to that project, but if I do, it'll need a major overhaul first.

Yeah, sometimes it's just better to put it away for a while. I've actually overhauled one of my childhood stories so much that it doesn't even resemble what it used to be. (which is probably for the better)
And even if you don't necessarily go back to that, you are still working on lackadaisy and that alone must be tons of work. Especially with all the side pictures you do of the characters and answering questions, (which are always so fun to read) You have an awesome sense of humor and it's always great to check out all the detail in your drawings.
