Description
Basically a direct Bentley translation of Rolls Royce's Silver Shadow, the Bentley T-Series differs in that it sports a differing badge and grille, but for all other intents and purposes they are identical.Much like the Silver Shadow, the car also spawned a variety of other cars, including the early Bentley T1 Two-Door Saloon, the Bentley T1 Convertible, and a unique Bentley T1 Pininfarina Coupe. Following the bankruptcy of parent Rolls Royce in 1971 and division of the company between the motoring side and engineering side, the line was reorganised. The T1 remained in production, but the earlier Two-Door Saloon became the Bentley Corniche and later Continental. A later derivative of the Bentley T1/Rolls Royce Silver Shadow was the Camargue, but only 1 official Bentley Camargue was ever built in 1985.
In 1977, to comply with new US safety legislations, the Bentley T1 became the T2, at the same time the Silver Shadow I became the Silver Shadow II. All changes were very much the same, with chrome bumpers being replaced by rubber or composite, and various other subtle changes to comply with legislation.
The Bentley T-Series ended production in 1980 at the same time as the Silver Shadow, being replaced by the Mulsanne, a Bentley version of the Rolls Royce Silver Spirit. Bentley Continental's however kept the design alive until their production ended in 1995.
