Description
The American Groundnut is a Legume, related to Clover, Alfalfa, Peanuts, Peas, Beans and Locust Trees. Though the beans are edible, it is the large tubers that are the real edible here. They were a staple to many Native Americans in the plant's normal range. The vine is best know today for the unusual, but pretty pink and reddish flowers it bears in late summer.
