So this guy is like a combination of Neil DeGrasse-Tyson and Tony Robbins. A non-awakened (Muggle in more-relatable terms) expert in the field of magic: research, artifacts, etc. He is a public figure, but also a tenured professor and sporadic Corps-employee. His status and knowledge give him the unique ability to temporarily work for whomever among the industries without too much negative effects. He's inspired a little of Indiana Jones, but also a big part of comics' logic where they would recruit the best for a job -- and a later issue might have them working alongside a different bad guy. So long as the proprietary knowledge is segregated (internally or with "influence") the Corps don't mind too much sharing him.

He also doubles as a vault of information for our runner's crew and sometimes even a client. Secretly he desperately seeks to be awakened and has an impressive library of genuine artifacts and copies of manuscripts trying to derive that outcome. He keeps a s toe in the Underworld and his ears to the grapevine for any signs of a "cure." Definitely works within the gray of society, which is how he connects to runners.
