Sazae Oni is a Japanese Yokai monster illustrated in a book "Hyakki Tsurezure Bukuro" written by Sekien Toriyama in 1784.

It's a Yokai of a horned turban. Over 30 years of long-lived horned turban turns into this Yokai. Or a lewd woman transformed into the horned turban and lived for a long time, turns into this Yokai as well.

A folklore in Bousou area, Sazae Oni is believed to appear as a woman asking for an accommodation. If anyone lets her stay over night, husband of the house gets cheated or killed.

A folklore in Kishuu area, Sazae Oni is believed to be an beautiful woman drifting in the water, rescued by pirates, raped by them. But the woman is actually Sazae Oni and it bit off pirates' balls, so that pirates had to pay a lot of golds to Sazae Oni to take them back.
