Plumeria Info ,While plumeria are canine-like in appearance, they are actually more closely related to reptiles and birds, being defined as "dragon-like". Their relation to birds may explain their owl-like ability to turn their heads 250 degrees. They are one of several species under the genus Flosnati meaning "flower-born" though little is known about this group and the other species within this genus., All of what is known about them comes from legends and stories passed down through the generations. Like others within their genus, plumeria are born of flowers. When a plumeria is born, the petals of its flower open, revealing a welp (baby) previous kept within. All plumeria and their flowers from which they were born have a very distinct floral scent that comes from the base of their tails. It doesn't seem match up with any other known species of plant or animal, but it is often described as sweet and fruity. Each plumeria smells slightly different, and it is theorized smell plays an important role in plumeria being able to identify each other, as well as identifying others' territories and borders. ,Baby plumeria are known as welps. They are born without wings. Wing stubs begin to grow at around 5 years old, and are fully developed at about 10 years, about the time when they learn to fly. Though they are long-lived creatures, plumeria mature at about the same rate as a human does, being completely mature at around the age of 20. Being a social species, plumeria form groups known as clans. Unlike pack animals like wolves who usually form small family-units, plumeria clans are usually grand in number, some estimated to have hundreds of individuals, who all share an extensive territory. The older members of the clan share responsibility for taking care of and raising the young welps, who will typically stay in the clan for life and help raise future generations themselves.Commonly, plumeria sprout feathered wings. Only on rare occasion do plumeria spout other kinds of wings, such as insect wings, or bat-like wings. Those who have uncommon wing types are often believed to be hybrids with other species. Other rare occurrences include wingless plumeria, or plumeria being born with double, or even triple sets of wings. ,It is said plumeria are manifestations of flora, are regarded as nature spirits, and guardians of the natural world. They hold powerful magic over the elements. All plumeria have a set of antennae from which their magic is stored, and from which which they can manipulate the elements. On rare occasions, a plumeria may have 2 sets of antennae. The antennae are the most sensitive part of a plumeria, for without them, they lose their magic. Knowing this, plumeria usually only go after the antennae of an enemy as a last resort. There is an unspoken rule of respect among the species. Even among enemy clans, plumeria rarely ever take a life, or the magic of another of their kind.Plumeria are said to live for 1000 years unless killed by other means. No more, and no less. Magic is fabled to keep them alive for exactly that long. However, there is one variant said to be able to live forever. The immortal plumeria sprout a set of 3 antennae, some are said to be deities as ancient as time itself. Even less is known about this particular variant. ,Like plants, plumeria photosynthesize. Within their feathered tail is what is known as their veil. Their veil most commonly consists of glowing orbs that collect sunlight which is used to energize the plumeria. A sickly plumeria, or one who has not collected enough sunlight or energy, may have duller or faintly-lit orbs. Due to getting their nutrients from the sun, plumeria do not have to eat. However, plumeria do commonly forage for herbs that can be used for medicinal purposes. On rare occasions, a plumerias' veil may consists of flowers instead of orbs, they serve and function with the same purpose. It is believed that flower veils hold an evolutionary advantage, being able to collect energy more efficiently, as well as hide the fact a plumeria may be sickly. There is also a rare sub-group of plumeria, known as night-blooming plumeria, which collect moonlight in their veils instead of sunlight. Night-blooming plumeria are typically nocturnal, unlike their diurnal siblings. It is believed that night-blooming plumeria may be sensitive to harsh sunlight, but are better adapted to live in the dark than day-blooming plumeria, and are better at conserving energy. ,It is common for plumeria to sport bright colors, much like flowers themselves, some even being biolumescent, or speckled with what appears to be stardust in their coat. They are decked with feathers, or plumage, specifically around their neck and tail. Their body is covered in what seems like fur, however this fluff is actually a kind of plumage that is different from fur or hair. It is said to be extremely soft and fluffy, more so than the fur found on mammals.Plumeria used to be heavily hunted by humans back in ancient times due to their special coat, as well as feathers which were fabled to bring good luck or even grant wishes. This is perhaps one of the reasons why plumeria retreated to their native island, Arcana, a secret location only known through myths. Long has humanity searched for the fabled land, and yet, the island remains hidden, leaving many to speculate if it even exists. While the species was documented to live alongside humanity in ancient times, many believe the species was hunted to extinction, or perhaps they never really existed to begin with and are nothing more than tall tales. Still, there are many believers in the species who will swear by their existence, and their hidden island. ------A big thank you to whoever read this far! I am very passionate about this species, and am thankful to anyone who has an interest in my work! I am happy to announce, Plumeria will now be a semi-open/regulated species! This means you are now allowed to make your own, for free, with some restrictions! Instructions on how to do so will be coming soon! As always - I do not claim ownership over specific features found on plumeria. You are more than welcome to create a character that looks like a Plumeria, without restrictions, it just wonβt be recognized as my species or added to the master list.I have a lot of plans for this species, and I am so excited to see what the future brings for them! Hope you enjoyed the bit of info I put together. Stay tuned for more about them, and their secret island, Arcana!...
