So I wanted to do something mermaid related, but I had done a mermaid themed render last month using the same model and I didn't want it to be exactly the same as the other one. So I decided to experiment with ikUnderwater, a really beautiful effect I haven't seen used much!

This is one of my favorite models, and I don't see it used enough. It deserves more love, Ginjishi makes such gorgeous models!
I used 16 different effects while making this, and somehow my computer didn't lag at all, except for brief moments when reloading the .pmm file after taking a break and closing the software.
This was a fun picture to make! I think I could have given her tail a bit more of a dynamic pose, but it's kind of hard to make really detailed poses with mermaid models because y'know.... they're fish, and fish don't really have much range in motion.

Okay so, related to the contest itself. With a theme as versatile as "no effect systems", I knew I had a lot more freedom on what I could make than on other months, because I never used raycast or nchl in my entries in the first place. I started out with a Pokemon Black and White themed render because that's my current hyperfixation, but I was having trouble figuring out who the third character in the render should be, I was torn between N and Cheren. Then I ended up scrapping it since I had trouble figuring it out, but I still have the .pmm file saved in case I want to come back to it later.
I soon remembered it was May, aka Mermay, then I decided to do something mermaid themed. So I did this.
As I said earlier in the description, I wanted this to be different from my other mermaid render, so I completely ditched the stage and ended up using a background I created specifically for this project. I've been experimenting with making custom backgrounds instead of using stages lately, and sometimes it looks really good.
