A month before my 41st birthday I was diagnosed with Stage 2 advanced triple negative node negative HER2+ invasive ductal carcinoma. It's just my husband of 23 years and myself; no family, no support system and only a few friends fighting to keep my head above water.
I was born sick; spinal meningitis and have fought severe health complications all my life. I have gotten so used to being in constant pain, that I walked around on a broken ankle for 2 weeks because I had no idea it was broken - it was just something else that hurt. My life has been a struggle, from an abusive childhood that left me learning only how to survive and not much else to renal failure at 18 and sexual assault in my 20s. I have tried so hard to make something of myself, being the only one in my family to have an actual high school diploma and to have gone to college...but my health has sabotaged my every move.
