We just bought a pumpkin for fall and already decided to carve one out. My little girl is terrified of that slimy goopy stuff inside the pumpkin. She won't touch it at all! So I wanted to create a fun pumpkin-themed image with her.This was a fairly simple project. Just cut out a the top of pumpkin and let all the goop and seeds fall out. And then use a small toy lightbulb to be the lightsource. I got my daughter to pretend to climb up on the goop holding a "torch". All in all, the photography and preparations took about 1 hour and the editing took about 1 hour as well. So only a 2-hour project!See the full editing video on my instagram page:

I can understand your daughter's reaction. I was never terrified of it, but I did find it to be quite unpleasant to deal with.
I don't celebrate holidays anymore, but I carved a number of pumpkins when I was younger. I found the process to get a lot less unpleasant once you got rid of the really stringy substances and the goop. The more you carve into the walls, the more tolerable the process gets.
It takes a certain mindset of apathy toward revolting substances to start scooping that stuff out though.
