Number 29 of my favorite video games characters, Captain Falcon of the F-Zero series.

Characters with problems and issues that need dealt with can be easy to relate to, and it's fun to watch them grow and change as we do.

And then there's Captain Falcon.

Captain Falcon doesn't have any problems. Captain Falcon is the best and he always wins at everything he does. Just try and strap a bomb onto his car and dare him to reenact the movie "Speed". He'll take care of that and still have time to kick your ass in the Grand Prix. There's a god inside the championship belt that wants to challenge him to a race? Falcon will just tell him to come off it and kick his ass too. This is a man who shouts the name of his attack before he does it and then still punches you and your galaxy out of existence.

Like most fans of the F-Zero series, my first introduction to Captain Falcon wasn't the actual Super Nintendo game, but the F-Zero instruction booklet. The actual game itself did nothing to introduce you to the Captain or any of the other three playable racers, but inside the manual was a mini-comic that gave you a little understanding of the Captain's character. It showed off a few of Falcon's bounty hunting jobs, a run-in with Samurai Goroh, and Falcon's dual life as a bounty hunter and professional racer.

Much like his story in the F-Zero series, Captain Falcon is almost two different characters by this point. On one hand you have Falcon the F-Zero pilot; a mysterious bounty hunter/racer who reveals little about himself, other than his incredible drive to win.

And on the other hand you have the Falcon the Smash Bros. fighter, which at this point has undoubtedly become his most recognizable role. With a fast and furious fighting style that reflects his profession, Falcon is now less known as a racer and more for his self-titled attacks and unending machismo.

Either way, the Captain is a winner. While not the deepest character by any means, Falcon is hard not to like. He shows us all what we could be if we just dedicate ourselves to being our very best; a self-loving champion who wakes up everyday and knows he's the best.
