Backstory:
Noah worked to rehabilitate and rehome previously abused dogs. Many of his canine clients were handed over as a last chance before being put down. He worked with severe cases of trauma and aggression and became extremely successful. As his reputation grew, he needed a lot more space to work with. When a large plot of cleared land came on the market, Noah was quick to make an offer. What he didn't count on was an abandoned horse still on the property. Phoenix was in bad shape when Noah found her. She was severely emaciated and terrified of human contact. Everyone he talked to advised euthanasia but Noah wanted to give her a chance. Phoenix was the hardest case of abuse and neglect he had ever worked with. In order to help her, he gave up his career as a canine behaviorist and started working part time as a dog trainer. Eventually, Phoenix began to trust him and started gaining weight. Noah didn't know how to ride and Phoenix refused to wear any tack but the pair became quite adept at liberty work. Unfortunately, Noah's savings had run out and he had nothing left to build the dog training facility he had planned. He knows it's not Phoenix's fault, but he can't help but feel a bit of resentment that because of her his dreams of helping dogs on death row are no longer possible.
