Description
In The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Claire, the heroes use what is called a stele to inscribe magical runes into their flesh to give themselves power.

In Medieval Nights, an original RPG setting and system of a friend of mine, my character uses a stele like this for most of his spells. It's an obsidian spike, wrapped in gold wire and topped with glowing amber.
