Description Noh "Ama"

This Noh play is based on the folklore of Kagawa Prefecture and the Chronicles of Japan.

The treasure in the story is called "Menkou-fuhai-no-tama",
The treasure in the story is a mysterious object in which an image of Buddha faces you no matter which direction you look from.

The first half of the temple is the highlight of the "Tama-no-Dan",
The scene in which she risks her life to retrieve the jade from the evil dragon is full of spirit, even though she is a woman diver.
The scene depicted on the Hanafuda this time is that of the joyous realization that the spirit of the mother of the minister Fusamae, a diver, has attained Buddhahood in the form of a dragoness, thanks to the power of the merits of the Lotus Sutra.

Synopsis.

The time is Nara Period.(710~784)

Fujiwara no Fusazaki, a minister who was bereft of his mother when he was a child, visits Shido no Ura in Sanuki Province to visit her with the little information he has.

At the Shido no Ura, the group meets a diver woman, and the diver begins to recount the events that once took place at this Ura.
She tells how a treasure presented by Fujiwara no Fuhito's younger sister, who became the Empress of the Emperor Tang, was stolen by the Dragon Palace, and how Fujiwara no Fuhito hid his identity and lived here in order to get it back. The diver, imitating his appearance, identified herself as the mother of the Minister Fusazaki, gave the letter to the Minister in tears, and disappeared into the sea.

The Minister of Fusazaki opens the letter and learns of his mother's wish for help in the underworld, and performs a memorial service at Shido-ji Temple on the 13th anniversary of her death.
Fusamae begins the memorial service and offers the Lotus Sutra to his deceased mother.
Then, the spirit of his mother appears in the form of a dragoness.
She rejoices that she has been saved by the merits of the Lotus Sutra, and she witnesses the miracle of the woman's attainment of Buddhahood.
