Description
"The Little Mermaid" - I guess you can call it 'the one that started it all' for me. Even though 'Fantasia' was the fist full length Disney movie I saw, 'Mermaid' was the one who won my heart. There was something so captivating about this young girl who had an entire ocean just for herself, yet her heart was not there. Emotions, colours, lines, and music, oh the music. The combination of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman managed to bring generations of kinds and their parents together, I guess, as it did in the movie. There was no one our neighbourhood, young and old alike who didn't knew the words to these songs. Up until today I hear my mother singing to herself 'Under The Sea' as she cooks something in the kitchen (not fish though).I chose to highlight the phrase Ariel saying right before she starts to sing 'Part Of Your World' as I find it to be the core of the movie, where it seems to represent the kind of a gap there is between this young girl and her father, who can't see the beauty and joy she finds in a world so strange to him, a world that scares him. I think it resonates with almost everyone I know in real life, and I find a lot of myself in it as well.
Hope you'll enjoy this latest addition to the Walt Disney Signature Collection.
Now let's see, which movie should I draw next?
David Kawena.

Wow! Where to start? The lines are all very clean, and I think you captured the look on her face perfectly. I almost feel as this is a concept piece from the Disney Studio! I also like that you did her hair justice. I have seen so many artists just get it wrong, along with her eyes. I think you were able to capture that Classic and Authentic Disney look here! I'd also like to point out that Flounder looks like Flounder. Again, I have seen artists try to draw him and something always looks off. But alas, you have no problem with making this look like the real deal! Great job as always David!

Yes I do remember Ariel as a young girl. I was only about 13 or so and I will say I had the strongest desire for her. I would have loved to met her and swam away with her. But alas it was not to be.
Like you too; Fantasia was one of my first movies of Disney to capture my heart. Although that was because of the sheer beauty of it. Bambi tore out my heart too.
Incredible piece of work, a pleasure to +watch you now.

I love love love this piece. You can just see that she's dreaming of something greater. Well done.
Ariel has always been my favorite. Would it be reasonable to hope for more pieces with her?

Do Brave next! It's one of my favorites even though it's one of the more underappreciated Pixar films!
