Style: Defence - More of a supportive player. Prefers to rely on his technique and intuition with good speed to back it up. Kaede's fort is in feints and serves, as a mid blocker, he utilizes his height and read blocking to make up for his jump power. A lot weaker strength wise, no matter how much he tries, he just can't seem to spike a ball powerful enough, so if a ball comes to him on rare occasions, he will almost always pull feints or dump shots.

Personality:

Kaede is a very polite, open-minded and approachable person. He's a classical introvert and is really just awkward at approaching others thus normally waits to be eventually noticed and approached. Ever since Kaede was little, he has always had a very low presence. He does everything quietly and can easily blend into the background (even though he's always tall). This may be good in a game where his moves are unexpected or unnoticed but along with his shyness, it also made it hard for him to approach others and make friends.

Once you approach him however, you'll find that he's extremely kind and helpful, overly kind in fact, as Kaede finds it hard to speak up for himself or turn someone down, making him meek and a total pushover. He's also attentive, considerate and supportive, even without asking him, he will offer help or just be someone to listen to your problems, often fussing over others and taking on more responsibility than he has to. On the other hand, if you show him kindness (or pay him any sort of attention really), he gets touched and becomes easily flustered with the tendency to blush.

Kaede is also a fast learner and an over-achiever who always feels the need to improve, but he's not ambitious and never aims to be a leader. Only ever trying to surpass himself (which may also lead to surpassing those he admires but he won't intentionally take the spotlight away from anyone). He's soft spoken, humble and very unguarded against others, he treats everyone with respect and will even encourage people from an opposing team before a match.

History:

TL;DR: Pressured by mother and was just study study study in his childhood years, prompted by his father to join the volleyball team in junior high for a different feel of life. Couldn't at first because of academic commitments so contented himself watching the team. Finally allowed to join in his second year and although the team was only average, he worked hard to become the pinch server in his third year. At the end of junior high, had to move near NarumiNishi because of his father's job. Chose NarumiNishi because it was close and had a good volleyball team.

Kaede grew up in a well off family and lived a relatively sheltered life. During his childhood years, his mother was the one who took care of him while his photographer father traveled around the world for photo shoots. Kaede's mother was a high up manager of a large company, she is strict and constantly pushes Kaede to study above his level. Kaede, being the obedient child he is, did what he was told and even somehow came to enjoy studying.

When his sister was born, Kaede's father started coming home more often and stayed for longer. Seeing that all his son did was study in his room, he suggested for Kaede to try out for a sports team when he gets into junior high next year for a different feel in life. Especially prompting him to tryout for the volleyball team as he was the setter for his team in his high school years.

However, when Kaede looked for sport clubs to join once he entered junior high, he found it too hard to balance sport with academic commitments (mainly the countless tuitions his mother enrolled him in). Even though he couldn't join the volleyball team as a member, he would often watch their matches. He had also watched other sport teams but none drew him attention as much as volleyball. To him, volleyball seemed like a sport in which he could both support and be noticed by his peers. Kaede longed for that feeling and it fuelled his passion for volleyball.

In his second year, Kaede finally gathered enough courage, and with the help of his father, he had a long talk with his mother who reluctantly agreed to let Kaede drop a few tuitions and join the volleyball team as long as his grades stayed up. He was easily accepted but Kaede felt it was only thanks to his height. After joining, things were pretty uneventful as their team was only average and there weren't any strong teams in the area to start with. None the less, Kaede still trained hard, wanting to be recognised by more than his height, eventually earning his share of spot light as the official pinch server in his final year of junior high.

At the end of his junior high years, Kaede's father got a order for a huge collection of marine life photo shoot over the span of two years. The family decided to move next to the sea where Kaede's father will be working as Kaede's mother would be able to become the CEO of the sub branch of the company she works for there. Kaede was reluctant to leave but his team mates just assured him that if he kept on playing volleyball, they will eventually meet again in much bigger tournaments.

When choosing which high school to enter, after some heated debate between the family and lots of promises, Kaede managed to persuade his mother to let him join NarumiNishi, which although laid back, he heard had a great volleyball team and was only ten minutes from his home. Now that Kaede has moved to this new and very unfamiliar area, he's trying hard to make at least a few friends and enjoy volleyball to the fullest.

Impressions/Relationships:

NarumiNishi team in general: 'I need to be worthy enough for this team.' When Kaede first saw the volleyball team's official match, he was amazed at how much better and more intense they were than his junior high. He often feels inferior and feels the need to improve to his sempai's levels. Also normally the one who voluntarily does most of the setting/packing up.

Ito Seiji -team captain- : 'Wow he really is prefect for a captain.' Both during the match and the club introduction, Seiji's skill and confidence won Kaede's instant respect and he especially admires his power and setting skills. Perhaps influenced by his father but finds the setter as the most admirable position. Will always refers to him as sempai~ and wants to be noticed by sempai

Family:

Meiko Kiyokawa 明子清川 - mother - (39 yrs old) - Company CEO - Strict and overprotective women, also a workaholic. She can get very intimidating but really does care a lot for her children.

Akio Kiyokawa 昭雄清川 - father - (40 yrs old) - Photographer - Outgoing, kind and very optimistic, seems to be the only one in the family who can argue with Meiko and have an upper hand. He used to be the setter of his high school volleyball team, a huge fan of volleyball (will sometimes appear at volleyball competitions to take pictures).

Tsubame Kiyokawa 燕清川 - sister - (8 yrs old) - Elementary student - Quiet and curious girl. She looks up to Kaede though she often tells him off for being too nice and soft. Likes to follow her onii-chan everywhere possible, especially enjoys beach volleyball and likes to helps Kaede practise.
