Description The first of seven parts dedicated to Vergil!Octavia.

Spiral Swords: You are here.

Another pseudo-pseudo commission; I offered this to Zirusianna, while Sasquatch refines his request. Ziru admitted he would prefer a LoL-related Octavia--so, officially, this is being made of my own accord while I noodle more ideas for LoL-Octavia.

The spiral swords were by and far the hardest part of this one. Not just getting them to look right in perspective after designing them from scratch, but also balancing the glowiness and transparency so that they look solid yet ghostly at the same time. I messed around with adding an ethereal flame to them ([link] ), but as neat as it looked, it clashed too harshly with the rest of the semi-clean style.

I initially tried drawing the swords by hand (okay, drawing one, then patterning it and using free-transform to angle them), but as they were flat ([link] ), it was incredibly hard to make them appear 3D. I eventually resorted to digging up Autodesk Inventor (a CAD program I used back in high school) to model the swords from scratch ([link] ). They were left as one piece because I really only needed their outlines, and the end result, I think, turned out pretty well.

Next one will feature Octavia actually facing forward, I promise. That list up there is merely censored--the other six are all down, I just have to actually draw them.

1920x1080 (with the "Spiral Swords" label): [link]
1920x1080 (without the "Spiral Swords" label): [link]
Done in Photoshop CS5, using a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch.
Swords were modeled in Autodesk Inventor 2012, then traced in Photoshop.
I do not own My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic or any of its respective properties.

The flame swords do look really sweet. But I guess it would ruin the cleanliness.

Still, it's really awesome! I really like the swords!

I do like this. The only thing I can complain about is the outlines aren't too curved, although that looks intentional.
