An iterative map is where some initial input, say, X(1), is fed into the formula to give a result, say, Y(1). Y(1) is then taken as a new input to the formula, call it X(2). The output is Y(2). Feed that back in as X(3) to get Y(3). Iterate N times, where N is a positive integer. Plot the series, Y(1),Y(2),Y(3)...Y(N). A simple example would be Y(n) = [X(n)]^2 for n = 1,2,3...N, X(1) = 2. You get Y = 4,9,16...N^2. Pretty dull, especially visually. Some iterative maps, however, lead to chaotic behaviour and fractals. I came across this one under the name "wallpaper."
